Composite insulator

Composite insulators are electrical insulation materials used in power transmission lines, typically composed of a core rod, an outer sheath, and metal fittings. They can be broadly categorized as follows:

   There are several types of composite insulators,Composite Suspension Insulator,Composite line post insulators,Composite pin-type insulators,CompositeCross-arm Insulator,composite post insulator,Composite Anti-Wind Insulator.

Composite insulators offer several advantages over traditional porcelain or glass insulators. They are lightweight, easy to install, and have a higher mechanical strength, making them ideal for use in harsh outdoor environments. They are also resistant to moisture, UV radiation, and pollution, which can cause insulators to degrade over time. This helps to extend the service life of composite insulators and reduces maintenance costs.

Composite Suspension Insulator

Composite Suspension Insulator

Composite Suspension Insulators are electrical components designed specifically for suspension applications in high-voltage electrical systems. They consist of a core material made of insulating silicone rubber or other polymer materials, surrounded by a weather-resistant, flexible outer shell. The suspension insulators are suspended from overhead power lines and provide electrical insulation between the conductor and the support structure.

These insulators have several advantages over traditional porcelain or glass insulators, including being lightweight, easy to install, and having a higher mechanical strength. They are also resistant to moisture, UV radiation, and pollution, which can cause insulators to degrade over time. This helps to extend the service life of composite suspension insulators and reduces maintenance costs.

Composite line post insulators

Composite line post insulators

Composite line post insulators are electrical components used to support overhead electrical conductors in power distribution and transmission systems. They consist of a core material made of insulating silicone rubber or other polymer materials, surrounded by a weather-resistant, flexible outer shell. They offer several advantages over traditional porcelain or glass insulators, including higher mechanical strength, lighter weight, and resistance to environmental factors such as moisture, UV radiation, and pollution.

Composite pin-type insulators

Composite pin-type insulators

Composite pin-type insulators are electrical insulators used in high-voltage power systems. They consist of a fiber-reinforced composite material molded into a cylindrical shape, with a metal pin embedded for attachment. They offer advantages over traditional ceramic or glass insulators, including higher strength, better resistance to weathering and contamination, and lighter weight. They are used in power transmission, distribution systems, substations, and electrical equipment.

Cross-arm Insulator

Composite Cross-arm Insulator

Composite cross-arm insulators are a subcategory of cross-arm insulators made from fiber-reinforced composite materials. They offer several advantages over traditional porcelain or glass cross-arm insulators, including:

  1. Lightweight: Composite cross-arm insulators are much lighter than porcelain or glass insulators, making them easier to handle and install.

  2. Improved weather resistance: The composite material used in these insulators is highly resistant to weathering, making them well-suited for use in harsh outdoor environments.

  3. Increased mechanical strength: The fiber-reinforced composite material used in these insulators provides improved mechanical strength, making them suitable for use in applications where high mechanical loads are encountered.

  4. Enhanced electrical performance: Composite cross-arm insulators have a low dielectric constant and loss tangent, which helps to improve their electrical performance and minimize energy loss.

Composite cross-arm insulators are commonly used in high-voltage power transmission and distribution systems, particularly in outdoor applications where weather resistance and high mechanical strength are important considerations.

Advantages for composite line post insulator:

Compare to porcelain line post insulator, composite insulator line post is the ideal solution for compact line applications in urban areas and composite line post insulator is also ideal for upgrading the capacity of existing lines with a narrow right of way – by increasing the voltage or the number of circuits. It also has the following key advantages:
1. Can be installed on steel, concrete and wood poles
2. Reduced phase to phase spacing
3. Low visual impact
4. Good pollution performance
5. Reduced conductor movement
6. Less radio noise
7. Un-punctured type

Type of Composite line post insulator:
1. Vertical mounting tie top with stud base
2. Vertical mounting clamp top with stud base
3. Horizontal mounting tie top with stud base
4. Horizontal mounting clamp top with stud base
5. Horizontal mounting clamp top with curved base.

Voltage class of composite insulator line post:
11kV, 22kV, 33kV, 69kV, 132kV, we can also produce other voltage class composite line post insulator, such as 15kV, 24kV, 35kV, 36kv, 46kV, 55kV 88kV etc.

4kN, 6kN, 8kN, 10kN, 12.5kN

IEC 61109 and ANSI 29.17 is the main standards composite line post insulator or composite insulator line post referenced. And we provide cost competitive, good quality, light weight, reliable solution for power utilities.
Advantages for polymer post insulator compare to porcelain post insulator:
1. Light weight: the weight of composite station post insulator is almost one third of porcelain station post insulator.
2. Good transportation and installation: Since composite post insulator is light weight and non-brittle, it is easy to transport and install and reduce risk of handling damage.
3. Outstanding pollution performance and flashover resistance.
4. Excellent seismic performance provides safety and reliability.
5. Leakage current control due to hydrophobicity.
6. Low weight and maintenance is free for cost savings.

Standards for composite post insulator:
Below 245kV we reference IEC62231; it is composite station post insulators for substations with a.c. voltages greater than1000v up to 245kV.
We also produce polymer insulator post type in accordance with ANSI C29.19: solid rod fiberglass insulator-Apparatus post type.
IEC61109 is commonly referenced by China insulator manufacturers.

Composite Anti-Wind Insulator

Composite Anti-Wind Insulator

The application of composite anti-wind insulators can be seen in electrical power transmission and distribution systems where they are used to prevent power outages caused by wind-induced movement of electrical conductors. They are particularly useful in areas with high wind speeds, where traditional insulators may not be effective. The composite material provides excellent mechanical strength, making it resistant to damage from wind and other environmental factors, and helps ensure the reliability and stability of the electrical system. These insulators are also used in various other industrial and commercial applications where electrical insulation is required, such as in electrical substations, switchyards, and electrical power plants.

Introduction for composite suspension insulator:

Composite suspension insulator is used in overhead transmission line or distribution line. And the voltage can be AC or DC. Our voltage range for composite long rod insulator is from 10kV to 800kV. Our 500kV composite suspension insulator is one step injection and has gotten the patent. This composite insulator can be used in tension tower to assembly tension string to tensile conductor or used in suspension tower to assembly suspension string to suspend conductor.

Construction of composite long insulator:
1. Core rod and fittings: composite long rod insulator consists of a unidirectional reinforced fiber glass core and assembly with two metal end fitting and most of end fittings were forge steel.
2. Silicone rubber: in order to prevent electrical degradation and the electrical leakage currents, the surface of fiber glass core is protected by a layer of high temperature vulcanized silicone rubber and the thickness must be more than 3mm.
3. How to connect the fitting with core rod: we use crimp machine to crimped the end fittings onto the ends of core rod.

End fitting of composite suspension insulator:
1. Ball and socket end fitting
2. Clevis and tongue end fitting
3. Pig tail end fitting
4. Hook end fitting
5. Y clevis end fitting
